Do I Need A Higher IQ or EQ To Be More Successful In Life?

Good day, my curious people.

I know that because you opened this article.

Do you know what IQ is?

I am sure you do; we have all heard much about IQ. We all remember Albert Einstein, who had an estimated IQ of around 160. And we all wish to have a higher IQ to be more successful in life. IQ test assesses a person’s cognitive capacity for thinking and reasoning. In fact, an individual's IQ does not change with age. In other words, it doesn't matter how much you learn in the next ten years. Your IQ level will be about the same.

We all used to believe that IQ (our capacity of thinking and reasoning) is responsible for our success in life... and if we weren't born that smart, we would be left on the side of the road to watch other "smarter" people succeed.

But today, I have great news for you!

We all have a chance to succeed in life as we always imagined by raising our EQ level.

It is maybe the first time you hear this term.

What does it even mean?

Well, let's explore and see how we can improve at it.

EQ stands for emotional intelligence. It is the ability to understand and manage your own emotions, as well as the emotions of others. “Emotional intelligence” was first coined by academics John D. Mayer at the University of New Hampshire and Peter Salovey at Yale in 1990. Still, the idea was popularized by The New York Times writer Daniel Goleman, who in 1995 wrote the bestselling book, Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ, based on their work.

Let's compare what are IQ and EQ responsible for.

An international search firm analyzed 515 senior executives and discovered that those who were strongest in emotional intelligence were likelier to succeed than those strongest in either IQ or relevant previous experience. More studies were done to bring results where EQ played a much higher role in people's success in different professions.

Especially now, with AI taking over our lives and businesses, we need to pay more attention to developing our Emotional Intelligence level because this is what computers would never be able to replace.

There are several things that you can do to develop your EQ.

  1. One of the most important things is becoming more aware of your emotions. This means paying attention to how you feel in different situations and trying to understand why you feel that way.

  2. Another important thing is to learn how to manage your emotions in a healthy way. This means learning how to express your emotions constructively and how to cope with negative emotions in a healthy way.

  3. Develop empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. But empathy, not sympathy, ofter we use sympathy thinking we are empathetic. Watch this video to understand what I mean.

Working on your Emotional Intelligence is hard work because before you can understand others better, you must dig deep and peel all these layers of personal emotional understanding. It takes practice and asking yourself many meaningful questions like: What am I feeling? Why am I feeling that way? How can I express my emotions in a healthy way?

People want to work with people, not with all known machines or computers. Developing your EQ takes time and effort, but it is worth it. EQ can help you in all areas of your life, from your personal relationships to your career, and bring you the success you have always dreamed of.

We want someone who cares and understands.

Start working on your EQ today, and remember, I am here to help.
